Ah Boys to Men
Yesterday I watched my first (hopefully not the last) Singaporean Film, Ah Boys to Men. It’s about the guys here doing their National Service. Apparently, every boy here in SG is required to go for NS for two years (with T&C) :))
It was really funny! Seriously(with Singlish accent)!!! Welll maybe it’s extra funny for me because I’m a foreigner and I’m not accustomed with their accent. But it’s really funny leh! Am I doing it right? haha
There’s a subtitle so I was reading the whole time. A bit weird that the subtitles doesn’t match what they’re saying: When they are talking in Singlish, the subtitles doesn’t have the “lahs” nor the “lors” but rather with ‘proper’ english. :)
He said it would be funnier if I know what they’re really talking about when they are speaking in dialect. Like, when we have jokes/sayings in Tagalog, and when you translate it in English it doesn’t sound funny nor it doesn’t ‘feel’ the same way right? So fair enough.
The movie also showed the lifestyle of Singapore,I guess. their Kiasuism and the “MC’s” and how the moms and grandma’s really value their only son. It’s a true blue Singaporean movie.
The CGI effects is not that bad. It’s intriguing to watch Merlion and Marina Bay Sands getting bombed.
Oh there’s a Filipino cast in the movie, a domestic helper. It’s a fact that Filipino maids were the one of first Filipinos to work here in Singapore. What I felt about it? Uhm, I guess, a bit disheartening and weird and weird and weird. yea, mostly weirded out.
And of course, I have a crush! Joshua Tan!!!

HE IS SOOOOO CUTE!! He played the guy who doesn’t want to do his NS. Yep I researched and already liked his page on Facebook. :D :D hahaha
I bet all the Singaporeans out there will feel proud and nostalgic with this movie, but as for me, Ah Boys to Men is very entertaining and a good film. :)

It’s been so long since I wrote about my work. Well, it’s definitely keeping me busy. me and these ladies organized a Sports Day to our students. And we finished strong (and sweaty, and tired..).
I wasn’t originally the ‘head’ of the committee for this event. But in the end it was me. I was a bit surprised. okay not a bit. really surprised. First, I think I can’t handle it. We have a big centre and I don’t know how to speak chinese! and I’m quite new there and I’m not a local and I don’t know what kind of ‘sports day’ they have here in singapore, and I think I’m not capable of handling a committee. yet. I’m still learning. I know that to myself. I have done lots of mistakes. I’m just not ready yet.
And it reflected on how I worked with my colleagues. there were a lot of questions raised when we were preparing. and I don’t have good answers for them. Every time there’s a meeting, I would try to be really prepared and even give out paper with the agenda typed there. But when the meeting starts, it’s just ‘blur-blur’. There will always be concerns and reactions (in english and chinese!) and more questions at the end of the meeting. :( I feel like everything is last minute!
And looking back, when I vent out to some colleagues how stressed I am with this and that, THEY WERE REALLY PATIENT WITH ME. They would always tell me “it’s okay.” “everything will be fine.” and that kept me sane. :)
When our Sports Day came, I said to myself I’ll do my best. not ‘try my best’, but DO MY BEST. I feel I owe my colleagues the support they needed from me when we were preparing. I was all around the venue. trying to help everyone! setting up the areas for the game, DJ-ing, calling(shouting) the parents to go to their designated areas, putting the balloons, being the commentator for the parent’s captain’s ball, cheering for the kids, smiling at the parents even I was really freaking dehydrated.
In the end, it was successful. Our ‘Mrs. P’ gave me a kiss! A kiss! :D for a job well done. That was some validation. :)
Yes, there’s a big room for improvement for the next Sports Day for our centre (This is our first Sports Day!). It was not perfect, but it was full of fun and laughter and cuteness overload from the kids doing their best too in their games!
So here’s my ‘accolade’ to my colleagues. ;)
JOB WELL DONE! FOR KEEPING IT COOL even if it was a very sunny day! for being sporty and for helping each other. :) We really make a good team after all. ;)

Universal Studios Singapore.
Someone asked me what’s my favourite place in Singapore. After contemplating very hard, you know, there are sooo MANY things to love about this fine city. half-heartedly choose USS. I have no choice. SERIOUSLY. here are the reasons why USS is “OK Lah”.

HOLLYWOOD. REGULAR ANG MOH GUYS DOING WHAT THEY DOBEST — DANCE IN THE STREET. YOU CAN SEE THAT IN CLARKE QUAY. GEEZ.

NEW YORK. AND SOON SESAME STREET. A COMMON PLACE TO SEE HERE IN SINGAPORE. A SESAME STREET CART? A COOKIE MONSTER COOKIE PLACE? PIZZAS AND A BAR? PLEASE.

BATTLESTAR GALACTICA. A METHODICAL TYPE OF ROLLER COASTER. 2 COASTERS RUNNING AT THE SAME TIME—HUMAN AND CYLONS. YOUR FEET IS HANGING AND THE OTHER THE NORMAL TYPE. DIDN’T EXCITE ME MUCH. RODE IT TWICE.

OKAY OKAY. THE TRANSFORMERS THE RIDE IS MORE THAN OKAY. GOTTA ADMIT IT. AND BUMBLE BEE IN FLESH? MAKES MY HEART MELT. THE RIDE IS QUITE AWESOME. RODE IT TWICE TOO. THIS IS HOUSED IN SCI-FI CITY

ANCIENT EGYPT. THE MUMMY ROLLER COASTER WAS A BIT SCARY. REALLY. FOR ME. YOU CAN SEE ON MY FACE HOW BORED I AM RIGHT?

FEELS LIKE I’M IN THE JURASSIC PARK MOVIE. GOTTA GIVE USS SOME CREDITS. CMON.

AT THE LOST WORLD . CUTE POST.

OH, IT’S JUST FAIRY GODMOTHER’S FAMOUS POTIONS. VERY NORMAL.

SHREK’S CASTLE. A VERY COMMON TYPE OF BUILDING. I WAS TOTALLY IGNORING IT.

THIS IS THE FAR, FAR AWAY.
WELL, AS YOU CAN SEE. A VERY TYPICAL THEME PARK. JUST A RUN-OF-THE-MILL UNIVERSAL STUDIOS.

Bukit Timah Nature Reservoir
That specific Saturday that I woke up early. Not because I have work, but because Priscilla decided to check out and “hike” the onlymountain in Singapore and asked if I’m game. Why not?
But when Saturday came, I was THIS close on bailing her. Heck, it’s Saturday!! But I showered, put on my only rubber shoes I have and finally used my backpack again.
and it was Fabtastic. First time I felt a cold breeze on my skin here in Singapore. :)) Like the mornings in Antipolo. <3
\
the kinda entrance to the trail. with the Ang Moh peeps

let’s do this. oh I thought it’s gonna be easy. :))

there were 5 trails, we went for the blue one. the easiest. :))

I think I shall never see, A poem lovely as a tree. :)

The Reservoir! It was sooo nice. The closest thing you can get to nature. here in SG. hehe

We had an awesome girl talk too. ^__^ This was the day after the horrible incident at school. hooh.
I’ll definitely come back here if I needed a break from the concrete jungle.

HARRY POTTER: THE EXHIBITION
I am soooo happy Harry Potter: The Exhibition came to Singapore. :) Yes, it’s just a museum of old clothes and props from the movie but I think my $20 was all worth it. Being a fan (diehard fan), I really wouldn’t miss this. I can’t take pics inside, so I took pictures of the ads around the Art Science Museum.

My Wednesday Dress-Up. Lemme tell you about this: Growing up, I never like wearing dresses and skirts. But I try to be as girl as possible with my jeans and flats. :D When I came here, I was inspired to wear dress because girls here are just so pretty when I see them in dress at the mrt, streets, and even at work. So I decided to myself that once a week, I would wear a dress. And I picked Wednesday! It’s midweek, makes me feel good to know that Friday is just around the corner. And feeling good should be paired with a dress. ;) Thus, my Wednesday Dress Up started. :) (Taken with Instagram)
